Abstract:
With the advent of the artificial intelligence (AI) era, AI technologies have injected a new wave of developmental impetus into operating systems. Notably, robust inference engines and multimodal interaction technologies are establishing AI operating systems as a defining trend in next-generation technological evolution. Simultaneously, the rapid global proliferation of the RISC-V open-source Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) has unlocked unprecedented opportunities for hardware-software synergy within intelligent operating systems. Consequently, AI-centric operating systems tailored for the RISC-V architecture leverage the unique strengths of emerging hardware platforms, positioning themselves as the computational nexus for future AI technological and application development. This study investigates the critical technologies of AI operating systems, including high-efficiency inference engines, software stacks for novel computing paradigms, and emerging AI interaction modes. Furthermore, it evaluates the arithmetic characteristics and strategic advantages of the RISC-V architecture in the domain of AI computing. Building upon these insights, this article details the technical research and implementation of the openKylin open-source AI operating system on the RISC-V platform and concludes with a visionary outlook on future developmental opportunities in the field.
