Technology-Enabled Disability Support in the Intelligent Era: Opportunities and Challenges — Report of the 25th CCF Beautiful Lake Seminar

  • The rapid advancement of intelligent technologies has positioned “technology-enabled disability support” as a pivotal field for enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and promoting inclusive social development. Based on insights from the 25th CCF Beautiful Lake Seminar, this article systematically explores key technologies, practical applications, and ongoing challenges in this domain during the intelligent era. The seminar focused on critical technical areas such as bio-signal analysis, multi-modal information analysis, and virtual reality fusion interaction, while addressing core issues in data governance, technological implementation, product development, and societal awareness. Invited presentations proposed innovative approaches—including world model construction, computational psychology, large model applications, and digital security—demonstrating how multi-modal large models can enable information accessibility and how wearable devices can optimize rehabilitation training. Discussions also highlighted progress in multi-channel perception, early diagnosis, and intelligent rehabilitation, alongside persistent challenges such as data scarcity, ethical risks, technical bottlenecks, and fragmented industry collaboration. To overcome these barriers, the seminar recommended building intelligent data platforms, fostering interdisciplinary, improving standards, and strengthening collaboration among government, industry, academia, and end-users—ultimately empowering individuals with disabilities to fully participate in an intelligent society.
