Opportunities and Challenges of AI4HumanitiesReport of the 29th CCF Beautiful Lake Seminar

  • The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is profoundly transforming the paradigms of humanities research. From June 15th to 17th, 2025, the 29th CCF Beautiful Lake Seminar was held under the theme “AI for Humanities” (AI4Humanities). Experts and representatives gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on this emerging interdisciplinary field, reaching a consensus that the field faces unprecedented opportunities while also needing to address multiple challenges. Focusing on the pathways and key challenges for the transformation of Chinese humanities research in the AI era, participants systematically explored core issues facing the development of AI for Humanities and their potential solutions across multiple dimensions, including data infrastructure, technical methodologies, disciplinary restructuring, and theoretical framework construction. Corresponding to AI for Science (AI4Science), AI for Humanities calls for breaking down traditional disciplinary boundaries, promoting deep interdisciplinary integration between the humanities and AI, and fostering their synergistic development in both academic research and social service domains.
